Misteur Valaire: Friterday Night! Band rocks Montreal at the Club Soda

The electro-jazz band takes to the stage on November 9th as part of Coup de cœur francophone
Montreal, Monday, October 22nd, 2007 – Remember when excited fans brought down the house at the Café du Fjord in Tadoussac? (relive this moment at www.misteurvalaire.ca/video). Never fear! Misteur Valaire fans will be quite safe on Friday, November 9th, since the floors at Montreal’s Club Soda are solid! Misteur Valaire invites fans and members of the press to experience its new show, Friterday Night. With ingenious lighting and cutting-edge video projections, Misteur Valaire’s music is deeply entrenched in electronic and organic rock and jazz. Their music makes you move! You can’t stay still when experiencing this unique show, even if you bring down the house!

They’re only 20 years old!

Misteur Valaire is made up of Luis (percussions and spokes person), France (base, synthesizer), DRouin (saxophone, synthesizer), Jules (drums, decks, programming) and To (trumpet, piano, synthesizer, programming). Each of these five 20 year-olds from Sherbrooke already has 14 years of musical experience! At age six, the band members were already starting to hone their musical skills. Their solid musical expertise is the product of their strict “academic jazz” training. Today, Misteur Valairecleverly combines musical knowledge with sequencers, turntables, computers and various electronic gadgets. Thanks to the originality of its music, Misteur Valaire will make its way to the top of Quebec’s cultural scene. In fact, the band has already won several awards, including the Étoiles Galaxie de Radio-Canada prize at the Bourse Rideau 2007 event, as well as the Québec Wallonie-Bruxelles pour la jeunesse prize awarded as part of the Vue sur la Relève festival.

Their music is free. Their shows? Not so much.

Misteur Valaire believes music should be distributed freely and without restriction in order to reach as many listeners as possible. Since September 5th, 2007, the band’s web album, Friterday Night, can be downloaded for free at www.misteurvalaire.ca. In only one month, more than 3 600 people have downloaded this web album! The fans don’t have to feel guilty about “pirating”, since by doing so, all they’re doing is helping to promote the band. In addition, Misteur Valaire has recently given away more than 1 500 CDs (physical copies of the web album) to random youths in Quebec City, Sherbrooke and Montreal.
The fact that Misteur Valaire has decided to give away its music on the Internet certainly doesn’t imply a lack of interest from record labels. To make money, Misteur Valaire relies on the sale of tickets of their shows. They also offer original branded merchandise that is available exclusively at their concerts. Even though they’ve only been around for two years, they can sell out a concert using Internet-only tools such as MySpace, Facebook and the BAOM.net word-of-mouth system.
Misteur Valaire invites you to step into their world at Montreal’s Club Soda, on Friday, November 9th at 8:00 pm. The band will present its show, Friterday Night, with opening act Watcha Clan (from France). Tickets are available for $13.00 (plus taxes and service charge) on www.admission.com. Please note that this performance will be taped by Bandeapart.fm. Curious? Get a taste of the Misteur Valaire experience at www.misteurvalaire.ca/video.
