SXSW Review: Misteur Valaire

Misteur Valaire – Montréal (the “might as well be France” part of) Canada

The five energetic young guys who make up Misteur Valarie (Oui! Oui!) have been friends since babeland, and now congeal the sounds of turntables, synths, horns, guest vocals, rapping, spoken word samples, drums, strings in a deliciously jumbled sequence of electronica-jazz-rock-hip-hop-pop. They make contagious music that infect your feet with a tapping disease for which you will seek no cure. (Adjective overkill, you say? Check out the short video my partner-in-music-crime Melissa shot of one of their SXSW performances.)

Cute, right? But that’s not all. Their latest album Golden Bombay was released under a Creative Commons license and is available for free as well as a “pay what you want” scenario. (They have two other albums released this same way.)

You can get them ALL here: http://blog.misteurvalaire.ca/en/albums/

These white boys can dance. Let them make you dance, too.
